Worn by Them 01

Ryan Cullen & Edward West

In honour of Valentine’s Day, Worn By Them explores how our fragrances become an olfactory signature of those we love. Designed to be layered, shared, and worn together, our collection of genderless fragrances is a Valentine’s Day gift for all.

We spoke with Ryan Cullen and Ed West to explore how scent is worn by them; shaping rituals, closeness, and moments lived together.

Ryan is a Sydney-based photographer, and Edward a city-based florist and the owner of Poho Flowers and Little River Farm.

HOW DID YOU MEET

"We actually connected more than ten years ago through Instagram, back in the days before direct messages were even a thing. We followed each other’s lives and creative journeys quietly from afar for years. When we finally met in person, it felt surprisingly natural, like a continuation rather than a beginning. That was sort of it." — Ryan

Your partner, as a scent

"Ryan, to me, smells like the beach on a warm summer day, fresh, salty sea air with that soft heat that lingers on your skin. There’s a sense of internal sunshine about him, calm, warm, and quietly grounding." — Ed

"Ed is crisp, clean and classic. Fresh laundry, soapy and hints of labdanum comes to mind." — Ryan

Your favourite Abel scent

"At the moment, my favourite Abel scent is Laundry Day. It’s what I’m wearing right now, clean, comforting, and effortless." — Ed

"Coat check has been my everyday go to which seems like the least obvious choice for a summer scent in Sydney but I have loved it and it somehow just makes sense." — Ryan

"We do share fragrances from time to time, but what’s funny is that we often buy scent either on holiday or just before one. Those fragrances end up becoming deeply tied to a specific place or moment. Ryan will sometimes say, “You can’t wear that in Sydney, that’s Greece,” or “That’s Paris,” which always makes me laugh, but he’s right. Scent has a powerful way of anchoring memory." — Ed

Your rituals

"Honestly, it’s the simple things. One of our most cherished rituals is morning coffee at home, the quiet before the day begins. Our dog River nearby, incense burning, maybe a record playing. Sometimes we talk softly, sometimes we sit in silence. It’s a small, grounding moment that feels very much ours."
