Where does oud come from?

Oud forms slowly, and almost by accident. When an agar tree, Aquilaria, is wounded or infected, it floods the site with a dark, fragrant resin to protect itself, and that resin-soaked heartwood is oud. Wild agarwood is now rare and protected, which is part of why true oud is among the most valuable raw materials on earth.

In natural perfumery oud is used as an essential oil or absolute distilled from the resinous wood, never an artificial stand-in. Abel works with a responsibly sourced white oud, a luminous rather than heavy reading of agarwood, and blends it into a 100% natural perfume with no synthetic musks or questionable fixatives, just the wood and the notes that flatter it, like saffron, rose, labdanum and a touch of sweetness.
