A: The Abel Sample Sale is a one-off annual event where archive and distressed stock is sold at a 50% discount. These products may have packaging imperfections, but the fragrance inside remains correct.

This year’s event will be the FINAL Sample Sale. The sale is available for 24 hours only, while stocks last.

- Tester packaging (perfume packaged in a plain tester box)
- Old retail stickers or barcodes on the box or cellophane
- Wrong name printed on the perfume bottle (the fragrance listed online reflects the perfume inside the bottle)
- Damaged print on the bottle

- Marks on the outer box
- No notecard inside the box
- Mismatched boxes and perfume

Where does vanilla come from?

Vanilla is the seed pod of a climbing orchid native to Mexico and now grown mostly in Madagascar, with smaller harvests in Tahiti, Uganda and Indonesia. Every pod is hand-pollinated, hand-picked and cured over months, which makes it the second most expensive spice in the world after saffron.

In fine fragrance it is captured as vanilla absolute, a thick, resinous extract of the cured pods that, unlike the single synthetic vanillin molecule behind most "vanilla" scents, carries hundreds of natural compounds reading of rum, leather, smoke and dried fruit. Abel builds on real vanilla absolute, rounding it with natural materials like tonka bean, benzoin and tolu balsam and, where a cleaner warmth is wanted, a biotech vanillin fermented from yeast rather than drawn from petrochemicals, so every ingredient stays 100% natural.
